Description

Tranmere's record ever goalscorer with 180 goals across all competitions in a 10 year career during the eighties and nineties.

Originally signed by Frank Worthington from QPR, Muir came into his own during the John King era and was pivotal in two promotions which took Rovers into the second division.

Although not the quickest, and relatively small for a centre forward, Muir was clever, skilful and a deadly finisher with both feet. His partnership with Jim Steel was formidable in the late eighties, as was his interplay with John Morrissey.

Injury struck in a game against Chester City in the play-off run in 1991 however, and the resultant knee problem saw him most of the next year's football.

Although he returned from injury, Rovers has signed John Aldridge in his absence. While the two lethal finishers did play together on occasion, John King preferred to partner John Aldridge with the likes of Chris Malkin.

Muir still played a role as Tranmere established themselves in the second tier - and had notable runs in the team where he still found the net regularly. He was eventually sold to Birmingham City in 1995, where he barely played before drifting into non-league and even a spell in Hong Kong.
